Superquinn Pavilions, Swords - Fit out Superquinn decided in 1998 to become the main food anchor store in the New Pavilions Shopping Centre in Swords, Co. Dublin. Whelan Corcoran Smith’s involvement has been from the early design concept stage of the overall Shopping Centre to ensure that Superquinn’s requests for a successful centre design were achieved. This involved production of design proposals for mall layouts, car park linkages and visibility of the anchor stores. Following the initial concept design the practice followed on with the fit-out design for the store of 4,000m2 and 600m2 of staff accommodation. Supermarket fit-outs involve a very high degree of co-ordination due to the vast range of services and associated elements from bakery installations, meat and seafood departments and the latest hot deli concepts. Co-ordination of all mechanical, electrical and refrigeration services requirements was critical to ensure that the completed design was carried out to the highest standards. The Supermarket opened in May 2001 with fit-out costs of €7.6 million and a tight five month construction programme. |
