Whelan Corcoran Smith completed the development of a 60 bed state of the art Nursing Care Facility and Retirement Village on an 8 acre estate site at Kilbrew House, Curragha, Co. Meath for KCW Partnership. The development was successfully completed in 2005 at a cost of €11.0m. The development consisted of a 22,000m2, 48 bedroom (60 bed) Nursing Home, replacement Gate Lodge and the restoration and extension of a period house, Kilbrew House, to provide 12 retirement apartments and receptions rooms. Timber frame construction was used throughout in order to fast track the construction programme and provided an increased level of insulation to the buildings. Whelan Corcoran Smith are currently designing a second phase which will consist of a second Nursing Home and 60 unit Retirement Village including a leisure and sports pavilion with surrounding leisure facilities. Kilbrew Nursing Home has won the 2007 LAMA (Local Authorities Member’s Association) Award for Best Private Nursing Home in the country.
