Equestrian Facility at Rathfeigh, Co. Meath Whelan Corcoran Smith designed and recently lodged a planning permission application for a new equestrian facility at Rathfeigh, Co. Meath adjacent to the famous Waterside Stud. The Brief for this project required a World Class Equestrian facility and to provide the optimum environment for the training of top level show horses and riders and allow for the efficient everyday running of the facility. The design and layout of the buildings makes use of the traditional forms of equestrian and agricultural buildings with the stables set around a landscaped courtyard which combined with contemporary design and detailing provide for the needs of modern horse care and training. The landscaped courtyard forms the focal point of the design with most activity centered on this external space. There is an emphasis on sustainable design, both in the choice of materials and the inclusion of sustainable technologies such as rain water harvesting systems. The proposed landscaping compliments the buildings and the surrounding environment and provides a natural shelter and shield to the buildings particularly in its use along the boundary Road.
