Donabate Town Centre, Co. Dublin In 2000 Whelan Corcoran Smith completed the construction of a €2.2 million Neighbourhood Centre in Donabate Village, comprising of a supermarket, restaurant, coffee shop, various retail units and offices at first floor. This element of the village development was the first section to be constructed as part of an overall masterplan involving a site extending to 4 acres adjoining Donabate Railway Station. The residential guidelines for higher-density developments were incorporated into the overall design resulting in 32.5 units per acre being achieved. Pedestrian and vehicular links have been designed between the Village Centre, existing residential developments and the Train Station. This development will now form the focal point for the Village, which did not previously exist. Phase 2 involved a development of apartments, townhouses, crèche, retail units and offices at Ballisk Court, with a third phase planned to incorporate a park and ride facility at the Train Station, a pub, hotel, offices and further residential development in the immediate area. The overall development will successfully satisfy Government policy on the promotion of higher residential densities in appropriate locations in harmony with improved public transport systems.
